Eddie and Paula Yoakum
Hopkinsville, KY

My name is Eddie Yoakum. I’m 57 years old and happily married to Paula for 22 years this June.

We’ve lived in the Hopkinsville, KY area all our lives. We have a son named Kenton and a daughter-in-law named Hayley who live in Nashville, TN.  I’m retired from the Hopkinsville Fire Department and work part-time as a registered nurse.

I received Christ as my Saviour and was baptized when I was 12 years old.  Like many teenagers I didn’t put Christ first in my life.  At the age of 21, The Lord spoke to me in a very profound, life-changing way.  I started seeking Him with the limited knowledge of Him I had.

This was the first time I remember reading about the Kingdom of God.  It left a big question in my heart when I read Luke 9:27 which says, “but I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of come”.  I thought there were people walking around on earth that were approximately 2000 years old.  Obviously when you look at scriptures naturally, it leads to all types of confusion.  But I continued to seek The Lord and little by little scriptures opened up two overwhelming facts.

The Lord revealed from Genesis to Revelation that “Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings”, “All things were made by him and for him”, and “as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”.  This was fact number one.  Fact number two is much shorter but is still just as profound.  He said on the cross in John 19:30, “It is finished”.

Also, Luke 16:16 states, “the law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached and every man presseth into it”.  I am convinced more than ever that the work of the cross is a 100% completed work and (once and if) we receive Christ, then the victory is ours.  Life is (and should be) “more abundant” because we are “In the Kingdom of God” and “The Kingdom of God is in us”.  I don’t wait for eternal life. I already have eternal life. I don’t wait for peace.

I have “The Prince of Peace” within me, and I don’t wait to go to Heaven, because “I am seated with Christ in Heavenly places” (Eph. 2:6).   All these things are ours if we will reach out “By Faith” and take them.  Of course, all these and more are ours when we step out of this body and into the fullness of Heaven.  But, until then, a lot of “Heaven on Earth” is ours if we want it.  I urge all to receive Christ and his Kingdom. You will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams!
